1-page Abstracts

Aims and scope of the 1-page abstracts track in ISBI

The goal of this track is twofold. The first overall goal is to communicate late scientific findings and open up ISBI to a broader audience of imaging scientists (in particular from the biology, radiology and physics communities) and to encourage cross-fertilization. The scope of the abstract track is complementary to the regular track with the aims of (a) stimulating future algorithmic, mathematical, and computational contributions by the traditional ISBI community, and (b) promoting the transfer of advanced algorithms to the practice of bio-imaging. Authors of full 4-page papers that were not accepted for the regular submission track but received positive reviews are encouraged to submit their work as an abstract. The second overall goal is to provide a forum for presentation of a selection of manuscripts published by IEEE journals  that are sponsored by the Engineering in Medicine or Biology Society and/or by the Signal Processing Society (the ISBI Sponsoring Societies) as follows. All peer-reviewed journal papers published by EMBS or SPS during 2017 whose topic is in the biomedical imaging and image analysis domains are eligible for presentation at ISBI 2018, subject to space availability and approval by the ISBI Program Chairs. Requests for presentation of such papers should be made by submitting a one-page abstract of the paper through the ISBI 2018 website on or before the submission deadline (January 8, 2018). Approved requests for presentation must have one author/presenter registered for the symposium according to the ISBI 2018 registration rates. The final format of presentation (oral or poster) is the decision of the ISBI 2018 Program Chairs. The accepted abstracts will not be published in IEEE Xplore or indexed otherwise.
Only 1-page abstract submissions will be considered. Any documents that exceed the 1-page limit will be rejected. Accepted abstracts presented at the meeting will be neither published in the conference proceedings nor in IEEE Xplore.

Why should you submit an abstract to ISBI?

If you are a basic biological, biomedical or clinical researcher; if your work requires access of advanced biological or medical imaging techniques; or if you are keen to network with experts in the image analysis domain… then perhaps you should consider submitting an abstract to ISBI.

If you are an IEEE journal author whose paper was published in 2017 and would like to gain publicity for your work not presented previously to the ISBI community, then consider submitting an abstract based on your published journal paper.

You will have the unique opportunity to meet physicists and engineering experts in image acquisition and image processing; to attend a variety of tutorials and special sessions reviewing hot topics in amenable and high-quality lectures. Why not make the most out of this conference by drafting an abstract to ISBI where you report on your recent work and expose the challenges of your application to the biomedical imaging community? Learn from other disciplines, listen to top notch plenaries share your imaging challenges, and establish new collaborations in a vibrant city.

Instructions for Authors

Please read the instructions above and below carefully. In particular, authors should follow the steps below:

  • Prepare a 1-page abstract of your work. Use the first page from these templates.
  • Submit your abstract online. Follow the link, find ISBI2018 in the table. Select ‘Submit a contribution to ISBI 2018’, Submit a 1-page abstract.
  • If your paper was published in an IEEE journals sponsored or co-sponsored by EMBS and SPS, the title should clearly start with the wording: Journal Paper: … the text should clearly mention the paper that the paper was published in 2017 and the journal paper should be cited.
  • Abstracts will be reviewed for suitability by selected members of the Program Committee and will include a subset of the Scientific Review Committee to ensure that proper expertise is provided.

Upon acceptance of the abstract:

  • Prepare a presentation following the posted guidelines.
  • Title and authors of accepted abstract will be listed on the program
