General Information

Climate and Clothing

Spring in Kolkata comes in mid-February and lasts until the mid of April. To visit Kolkata in spring, you need to bring lightweight clothing such as long-sleeved shirts or T-shirts, plus one or two jackets, and sweaters are not needed unless you plan to travel to the Hill Station of Darjeeling. Generally, the spring in Kolkata is warm, windy and dry. The temperature rises in the spring, but there is a sharp difference in temperature between day and night.

Currency and Banking

The official name for the currency of India is the Indian Rupee (INR). Foreign currency can be exchanged for INR at the airport, banks and hotels. Major credit cards are honored at most hotels, cafes, shops, app cabs, etc. Banks usually open at 10:00 in the morning and close at 16:00 in the afternoon on all working days. Working days are generally Mon-Fri.

Local Time

All of India follows a single time zone, known as the Indian Standard Time (IST) which is UTC+5:30.

Language

India is multi-lingual, most Hotels, Cafes, Shops speak in English and have printed instructions listed in English. The currency, ATM, Ticket machines, Airport/Railway announcements are also made in English. The local language in Kolkata is Bengali which is the same as the national language of Bangladesh. The most common other language spoken in Kolkata is Hindi, which is popularly spoken in the northern states of India.

Electricity

Electricity is supplied at 220V, 50Hz AC throughout India. Major hotels usually provide a 115V outlet for electric razors. You can buy an adaptor for suitable plug points in most Airport shops.

Liability

The conference secretary and organizers cannot accept liability for personal accidents, loss or damage to private property of participants, students and accompanying persons either during or directly arising from the ISBI 2022. Participants should make their own arrangements with respect to their health and travel insurance.

Covid / RT-PCR Tests

You can schedule to get RT-PCR tests at the Hotel room directly, and such scheduling can generally be done online. You need to pay for the tests. You may ask the Hotel reception for such requests. Click for more details on service providers
