Submission Title
The beginning of the life
Abstract
The formation of a fertilized egg signifies the commencement of a new life. During fertilization, around three hundred million sperms navigate through various obstacles, with only one fortunate enough to unite with the egg cell, initiating a new journey of life.
Inspired by this process and microscopic imaging, I employ traditional Chinese intangible cultural heritage techniques to depict a scene where three sperms are competing to fuse with one egg cell in metaphase II of meiosis in the fallopian tube. The sperms try to traverse structures like the corona radiata and the transparent zone to reach the egg. I utilize lace to represent cytoplasm, baroque pearl for the egg cell’s nucleus, and Indian agate for follicular cell nuclei, miniature baroque pearl signify the polar body.
Through meticulous craftsmanship and profound scientific insight, I aim to convey the challenge, fragility, and beauty of life’s genesis. My objective is to evoke a sense of reverence and genuine love for life.
