Submission Title
NE[UR]ON
Abstract
As a woman of science and art, it is one of my greatest joys to intentionally intertwine the two, and watch the sum of two disciplines bloom into a product greater than their individual parts. Over the past year I have had the privilege of both beginning my PhD in neuroscience and learning to work with neon as an artistic medium. The process has been filled with learning curves and challenges, but carving out time for this artistic pursuit has been the breath of peace that my mind and nervous system have needed as I ramp up the research that will culminate in my dissertation. Learning to bend, wire, and present a colourful rendering of a cell so integral to my own research has been a privileged learning experience, and an inspiring way for me to take a step back and reflect on the multifaceted beauty of a neuron.
