Join us for a delightful performance of Colombian dances at the Explanda de San Francisco, an impressive outdoor space in front of the Convention Center, which for more than 30 years has witnessed some of the greatest events celebrated at Cartagena de Indias. Although, Colombia is well known worldwide for its Caribbean music, little is known about other rhythms and dances that originated in other locations within its vast territory (almost twice the size of France, the largest country in the EU). Therefore, we have prepared an exhibit of a variety of regional Colombian dances that will take you on a memorable trip through our country. After that, enjoy the unique experience of Drums of Resistance, a marvelous and unconventional staging that will delight you with the power of the sound from instruments made of recyclable material by the group Batambora. The musical repertoire is a journey through different musical genres ranging from cumbia, salsa, champeta and modern music. Tickets for this very especial event will be available during online registration, or at the onsite registration booth.

Spanish, although it is supposed to be an easy language to learn, can be tricky given its many variations around the world. So the word rumba, which is known to be a musical rhythm, in Colombia also means a celebration. Also, a chiva, the word for a female goat, is also understood in Colombia as a colorful wooden traditional bus that is used as actual public transportation in rural areas. Sometimes, is also used as a touristic vehicle with onboard musicians. We have put together a 2-hour drive around the city of Cartagena de Indias through several of the most iconic venues (e.g., the beautiful neighbors of Bocagrande, Popa, Manga, among many others), for your enjoyment. After the chiva tour, join us to dance traditional music with a Champeta Show included in Discoteca Calle Adentro.

We are passionate about continuing to advance the participation of women, as well as other talented individuals from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research. We have put together a very special panel of outstanding women who are leading biomedical imaging research worldwide. They will share their professional experiences, which have made them role models. They have not only developed novel and independent programs at the forefront of biomedical imaging research, but have also expanded the pool of women who lead the progress in the field. We invite you to hear their stories and discuss issues still facing women in science today.
