UCA Jedi

While supporting the research excellence at the heart of all disciplines, the Université Côte d’Azur actively promotes transdisciplinarity. Only the cross-talk between several disciplines can make it possible to understand the complex world around us. Transdisciplinarity arises through a process of integration and transcending the specific perspectives of each discipline – each bringing its specific approach and analytical tools.

This is why the Université Côte has various tools to support this new scientific approach.

Five academies have been established as part of the UCAJEDI program, each composed of laboratories and teams of excellence, which build new interactions between researchers from different disciplines in the following five areas:

Median Technologies

Median Technologies provides innovative imaging solutions and services to advance healthcare for everyone. The cloud-based Median proprietary iBiopsy® research and development platform leverages multimodal Artificial Intelligence technologies and Data Science to meet the promise of precision medicine through cutting edge medical image analysis. iBiopsy® is extracting non-invasive biomarkers from standard medical images to identify the specific signatures of certain diseases. The challenge is to improve patient care and treatment efficacy. iBiopsy® and associated services address multiple clinical indications and target the drug development and the patient care markets.

Labex Primes

In France, LabEx, or Laboratories of Excellence, are the laureates of calls for projects launched under the Investments for the Future Programs (PIA) since 2010, funded by the ANR (National research Agency), which aim at funding research teams around innovative and promising projects. Selected by international juries, these French laboratories provided with significant resources allow their teams to compete on an international level.

The LabEx PRIMES (Physics, Radiobiology, Imaging and Simulation) from “Université de Lyon” has been funded since 2012. Its primary objectives are to develop new concepts and methods in imaging and radiotherapy for the exploration, diagnosis and therapy of cancer and pathologies associated with aging. PRIMES is an interdisciplinary network of 18 research laboratories from the Auvergne Rhone Alps region working in variety of areas ranging from basic physics to instrumentation, experimental and theoretical radiobiology, image acquisition and image processing to simulation and modeling.

In terms of biomedical imaging, PRIMES does not only work on state of the art imaging equipment such as MR/PET, high-field pre-clinical MRI and X-ray spectral CT, for which the University of Lyon has a ground-breaking position, but also contributes to the emergence of new devices in multi-modality imaging at different levels of the conception chain. With the multidisciplinary consortium of PRIMES, we have the ability to address the design of new state-of-the art imaging systems coupled to innovative data processing methods, in signal processing, machine learning and deep learning approaches.
